Starting tomorrow, DC will release a new bi-weekly digital-first comic book series on the DC Comics app based on the game called Scribblenauts Unmasked: A Crisis of Imagination. It was only a matter of time before DC Comics took advantage of the game's visual appeal in its very own comic, and that day has come. Fans of the franchise and comic books will no doubt enjoy playing through this fun but flawed offering in the Scribblenauts universe. The well-received Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure released earlier this year, mashing the Scribblenauts world with that of the DC Universe to excellent results. While the game is a little more difficult than its predecessors and the puzzles aren't quite as imaginative, the DC Comics integration is a clever and gratifying one. In front of the same television screen, a second player can join the Wii U version of the game and use the Wii Remote to take control over characters.Īlong with the dozen main stages in the solo campaign, Scribblenauts Unmasked also offers randomized elements for higher replayability, boss challenges (including a racing sequence) and inside jokes for Justice League fans.

Unlike the Nintendo 3DS cartridge, the Wii U disc and PC download (via Steam) also let you create your own superhero (or modify an existing one, or villain), and then share your custom character creations online, if desired. You can access the in-game Batcomputer to read up on all the characters and objects in the game. You'll also collect "starites" to power Lily's globe and watch enjoyable non-playable story sequences.ĭC Comics fans in particular should love the superhero tie-in as the game houses more than 2,000 DC Comics characters and objects, all drawn in the charming Scribblenauts art style - including Superman, Lex Luthor, The Joker, Riddler, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. Maxwell can also explore the 2-D levels, talk with characters to get a mission and manipulate objects (in the PC version, by clicking the right button on the mouse). No two people will likely play the same way because of the huge number of descriptive words and nouns you can type in to solve puzzles. Previous Scribblenauts games didn't introduce adjectives until much later on in the game.īut once you get the hang of it, the game really grows on you, especially as you're using your imagination to play the game however you like. A few seconds later, you need to bring bad guy Victor Zsasz to the roof of a building, and you'll also need to type in an adjective to get him there. For example, you're soon asked to give Batman an adjective to help ward off Deadshot - perhaps with a word like "strong," "fast" or "flying" - but I've seen many kids type in nouns to fight instead ("batarang," "knife" or "rock"). Easy enough, right? Problem is, Unmasked quickly introduces adjectives, which might confuse younger gamers. Your goal is to stop a villainous plot from unfolding, by visiting iconic locales from the DC universe - Metropolis, Atlantis, Gotham City, Oa and others - and typing words in Maxwell's magic notebook for the object to appear onscreen.įor example, Lily needs a doctor at the beginning of the game, so you'll type "doctor" and drag the cartoon physician onto your sis to fix her up.

Scribblenauts Unmasked once again stars the young Maxwell and his twin sister, Lily, who can zip around the world with a globe. Entertainment, the new game isn't the strongest in the series but still proves to be a fun, attractive and challenging game that rewards you for flexing your imagination.
